Venice beach is another must-see in Los Angeles. Often branded as
Muscle Beach due to the large amount of glistening body builders
and scantily clad folk constantly on the search for admirers, people
watching is the number one pastime.
Where Main crosses Rose Street, visitors are greeted by Joseph Borofsky’s
Ballerina Clown figure .This serves as an appropriate icon for an
entertaining beach community, which is a strange mixture of vanity
and the psychedelic Sixties. Ocean Front Walk is the hub of Venice
with busy market stalls, cool street performers and of course the
constant parade of finely tuned bronze bodies.
Just inland from Ocean Front Walk, canals wind through the residential
neighborhood and
thus the name Venice originated. Many people have actually seen Venice
without realizing, as it has had several starring roles on the big
screen, including the musical Grease, starring John Travolta and
Olivia Newton-John and Orson Welles’ Touch of Evil.
If you are interested in joining the crowds on Ocean Front Walk,
then renting a bicycle is probably the best way of making the most
of it. For a little more relaxation, take a leisurely stroll down
Main Street which connects Santa Monica and Venice and check out
the art galleries and bustling shops. |
