This is the largest museum of its kind in America and is a fascinating
exploration of the automobile’s evolution. Here you can find
history and culture in abundance, from the early jalopies to the
fabulous Ferrari Testa Rossa.
The ground floor “Streetscape”, is centered around the
effect of motoring on people’s lives, with the American Underslung
touring car and a classic Ford Model T on display. This is very cleverly
done as it is based around scenes and themes of the era such as Laurel
and Hardy with the Ford Model T and a 1929 gas station.
The “L.A. Autotude” section is based more on the fashion
accessory theme with a selection of weird and wonderful machines
and tributes to the 1950’s and 1960’s as well as vehicles
of the future.
The second floor is dedicated more to stars’ cars, L.A hot
rods etc. but this is regularly altered. The Otis Chandler Motorcycle
Gallery is also located here and there is a children’s discovery
centre to keep the kids happy. Be sure to bring a good quality camera
with you, as this museum is a truly remarkable and fascinating journey
through various sectors of the automotive history.
