This is a truly wonderful experience for all those art lovers and
is one of the broadest-ranging art museums in the U.S. There is
a phenomenal amount of material on display, spread over five buildings,
so it is strongly advised to plan a detailed route around your
personal favorites. Layout plans are available from the information
booth.
The Ahmanson Building houses most of the museum’s permanent
collections. Here you can find terrific examples of ancient Asian,
Egyptian and pre-Columbian art. There are also medieval and Renaissance
paintings, 17th century landscapes by Dutch specialists, 18th French
Romantics, Cubist, Fauvist and Surrealist art. Also on display are
Persian manuscripts, Ottoman ceramics, British silver, Expressionist
art and the incredible Madina Collection of Islamic Art.
Apart from the permanent collections, the Anderson and Hammer Buildings
host regular top flight visiting exhibitions. Sculptures by Rodin,
Bourdelle, Calder and Alice Aycock surround the buildings.
If art is important to you, then a visit to LA County Museum of Art
should be very high on your list of places to go in L.A. Be sure
to bring your camera but clear it with staff before taking any photographs. |
