No visit to Los Angeles is complete without seeing Beverley Hills.
Covering a 5.69 sq-mile area, Beverley Hills began its rise to
fame in 1919, when Douglas Fairbanks Jr. set up home there. Until
this, it was relatively unknown. This set a trend, and Fairbanks
was followed by the legendary Charlie Chaplin, Rudolph Valentino
and Gloria Swanson.
Beverley Hills is stacked to the rafters with rich and famous folk.
Crescent Drive and Wilshire and Santa Monica boulevards and the world
famous Rodeo Drive, all form the Golden Triangle. The shopping in
these areas is second to none and Rodeo Drive on its own, boasts
a three block strip of exclusive designer emporiums. A $200-million
fashion retail complex, featuring Via Rodeo Cobblestone Walkway (a
smaller version of Rome’s Spanish Steps) and the busiest branch
of jewelers (Tiffany & Co.) outside of Manhatton, is situated
at the Wilshire Boulevard end.
Contrary to what many believe, Beverley Hills also has a fascinating
historical side to it. While there, it would be a shame to miss some
sights such as the impressive City Hall, Beverly Gardens and the
magnificent O’Neill House on Rodeo Drive |
